Forcing Hyacinth Bulbs
The following steps are needed to grow pre-chilled hyacinth bulbs indoors.
Fill a bulb vase with enough water that the bulb is not touching the water but is nearly touching it. If the bulb touches the water it will likely rot.
Put the vase in a cool dark spot for 1-2 weeks or until the bulb produces roots that will start to grow into the vase.
Once the roots begin to grow, place the vase in a bright space. It will take 1-2 weeks for the bulb to bloom. If the plant begins to bend toward the light as it grows, just rotate it so that it bends the other way - this may be needed several times.
These bulbs can bloom again next year in the spring! When the bulb is done blooming, you can keep it in the vase and cut the bloom off (leaving the leaves if possible). You can either plant the bulb directly in your garden in the spring or once the leaves dry out keep it in a cool dark place until fall and plant it so it can bloom in your garden next spring.
