Coleus

Solenostemon scutellarioides

Native to Southeast Asia and Malaysia

Plant Type: Tender perennial

Color: Greens/Reds/Purples

Sun: Part to Full Shade

Height: 12-36"

Spread: 10-16"

Deer Resistance: This plant is supposed to be resistant to deer due to its toxicity, but in some areas where deer have had to adapt to a more rural setting, it’s possible the plant will be disturbed. If deer are a problem in your area, try mixing plants in an English-garden style where plants that are highly deer resistant are growing along side those that are less resistant to deer and other wildlife.

Pollinators: Bees and other pollinators are attracted to flowering coleus.

Drought Tolerant: No

Cut & Come Again: Yes! Once the flowers on the coleus start to get leggy, cut them off and more leaves will grow.

Other Comments: The first few leaf sets of the plant can be cut and put in water, and they will easily propagate within 5-10 days. Once white roots start to grow, they can be planted in dirt and a new plant will grow just like the original plant.
